  • Practicing with MSF drills

    Hey Gang,
I'm upgrading from my 900 to a Nomad. I'm sooo super stoked about it but at the same time, It's a much bigger bike.

I was thinking it may be wise to practice the MSF drills for low-speed parking lot stuff. The elementary school is on my block and it's summer, so I have that going for me.
The problem is I took the class in 06 and don't have the book anymore.

Anybody have a copy of those drills?

I just took my son to a parking lot and put him through all the drills. He's taking the official course this weekend. I do believe he was better than I was but dont tell him

I've still never need that figure 8 maneuver, but when I do, I'll be ready. Even when I took the BRC2 course, where you use your own bike, I was still the only one who didn't touch down with a foot. Always good to keep your skills honed even when you're not changing bikes.

I LOVE my Nomad, but dang, it's a ton heavier than the 900 so slow speed moves are much harder. Each time out though it's more and more comfortable.

I had to jockey some vehicles around and moving my 900 felt like moving my son's bicycle in comparison. LOL!

thing that TRULY does work for the hard turns (crazy 8) is to turn that head all the way around and look where you are heading........

So how is the Nomad working out? Smooth transition?

So tell us please what makes it so much better than the 900.....objectively that is. (if that's possible).

I've never understood the fascination with BIG bikes......except for the testosterone factor, that is. Of course, being a small person probably makes my view a bit biased.

My advice is: Take the basic course again. And then a couple of months later, take the advanced course on your new bike.

The brakes, and Hydraulic clutch are nice. Depending on the Nomad there is shaft drive for even more maintenance free reliability. A lot of them come with hardbags. I can't vouch for his particular bike but objectively these are some reasons.

No doubt - I have looked at a couple of Nomads to see if there is more room for 2 up riding - according to the specs the wheel base lengths are different by a small amount - not sure if it is worth it or not.
I did notice that I did sit on the Nomad, not in it like the 900.
