  • Lady rider from PA

Hello all! I posted on another forum too but I am delighted to post here too!
I am a new bike owner and soon to count myself as an official bike rider.
I have been gifted by my lovely husband a '94 VN 1500 in beautiful shape, which is not going to be what I learn to ride with nor am I going to ride my bike until I am absolutely ready.I just got my learner's permit this week and in 2 weeks I start the Motorcycle Safety Course.

                  Re: Lady rider from PA

                  You all are totally awesome!!
I appreciate that people understand my bike is one that I will grow into even though yes, it is my first bike. But it just is perfect. Ground clearance is the best one for me. I'm 5'9" and it's like it was made for me. We did look at a Suzuki VS 800 that was a good deal, but the bike was not fixable as it turned out. Then when we looked elsewhere, there she was, sitting there and my husband was like, this is the one! So it's not like we were aiming for a show off higher CC sort of thing; it's just how it worked out, when you know it's the one for you.
So I will start the Motorcycle Safety course the week after July 4th. They have on their site the student manual that is part of the classroom learning so I am studying it. It's very similar to the DMV manual content though it has some more details to it.
I'll float around the forum and ask questions. My husband is a biker and has already figured out some of the nuances of my bike and shows me how he does the choke, how to dismount, and when we are riding, he points out things he is doing such as counter-steering, counter balancing, leaning, etc. It also is different as he has a passenger and he explains that. So he is also teaching me things but he wants me to get the instruction by the official state course. At the end of the course, if you pass everything you get issued your license then and there. From there though I will still heavily practice on smaller bikes. I'm going to have to figure out just how I am going to get that additional practice before I move on to my own bike. I'll post that question in another topic area.
Thanks again all for the welcome!

Hey there! I live in suburban Philly area. I did see the Chester County Chapter and that is the next county over from mine. Once I am actually riding the bike, I will look into joining. Thanks!
