hi everyone, my name is mike and i am the new owner of a 1996 vulcan 800 classic as of today and i will be picking it up and taking it home this friday, when i can i will post some pictures.

i am from Maryland near college park UMD and i hope to meet and greet with some of you and learn from some of the others here on this site

being that this is a used bike what are some of the things i should look at first so as to make sure evrything is sound, are there any issues i should know about in the 96" 800b

    thanks

    Mike

    Mike,

We are very glad you found us! Nothing is as good as bringing a new bike home. Have you checked into joining the Maryland VRA yet? I'm sure they would love to have you as a member.

Remember, it's OK to keep going to your garage in the middle of the night just to look at your Vulcan. We all do it.

    Safe riding my friend!

      Re: newcomer

Welcome to the forum! I have an 800A and a good friend of mine has the 800B. Mine has 40K miles and runs like a top. At various intervals, certain maintenance should be performed on things that wouldn't be visibly noticeable - valves adjusted, fork oil changed, etc. It would be great to know this information from the former owner. The recommended intervals can be found through the Kawasaki website, Google or ask your local Kaw dealer.

The typical maintenance items can be checked easily by you or the dealer - chain, chain sprockets, brake pads, tires, oil, etc. I've replaced my chain twice in 40K miles and my rear sprocket once.

I replaced my front sprocket with a custom sprocket made by Sprocket Specialists, Inc. ($25). By adding one tooth (or was it subtracting??), it changed my gearing and made it a LOT nicer for traveling on the highway. Before that, I was always "looking for 6th gear".

We look forward to the pics.
