    Hi all,
New here I will be picking up a 2002 Vulcan 500 this week. It is my first street bike.
It will need some TLC as it has been sitting for about 5 years. It had no rust in the tank and fired right up. Looking forward to many hours of riding.

Welcome to the VRA and enjoy your ride. I suggest an MSF class to start you off on the right foot, and wear your helmet and gear because the likelihood of a drop in your first year of riding is high.

take a bike safety riding course and then find a empty parking lot. do lots of slow turn's left / right to get the feel of the bike. when you turn "Turn your head -- the bike goes where you look!" and practice , practice, practice. ALL WAYS WATCH FOR OTHER CARS - TRUCKS etc. the biggest thing every one hears is "I did not see them" happen to me so I know. Ride safe. and be part of the group here.
