  • Hello from Rosemount, MN

I recently bought a 98 Vulcan 800 when the Chief Finacial Officer (the wife) told me we had the funds available to buy it. We used to ride years ago before we had kids. Now they are at an age where they don't want to be around us. So for the last few weeks we have gone on rides togeather. We even went on our fist run, a memorial bike run for a local fallen soldier. It was with the American Liegion Riders, and now we are thinking of joining. We have another run comming up on the 25th. After that I'm going to have to winterize the bike. It will be nice to read this forum, and hear stories from all you folks who are fortunate to live in areas where you can ride all year round.

Now that we are having fun on the bike the kids want to be with us, so I bought my son an old Maxim to work on over the winter. We should be able to ride as a family next spring.

    Welcome aboard!

There will be plenty of us on the forum over the winter months, that can't get out to ride. Unlike our brethern to the south and far west that will surely "rub-in" their winter riding adventures.

Welcome aboard TSfan14. Some great riding up in your area, except you're far too close to the Twin Cities, and all that traffic.

There's a very active VRA chapter in La Crosse, WI. A bit far for some, but not to far for an occasional ride.

Our weather has sucked this year, too much rain. Today, chapter ride got rained out. They're calling for a wet winter, with the cold temps that means ice or snow usually. State College area got snow Thur/Fri.

On the bright side: It'll give me the down time to remove my saddlebag and have it re-painted, replace my clutch cable and brake lever. Not to mention, all the posting I need to do on sites.

TSFan, if you find yourself looking for "6th gear" on the highway, you can "re-gear" the entire bike for $25 by ordering a custom-made front sprocket from Sprocket Specialists. I'm not a wrench by any means but I replaced it myself with no problem.

By adding one tooth to the front sprocket, it makes 1st gear more useable and allows you to cruise comfortably at 65 - 70mph. Best investment I made on my 800A.

Ride hard man...and Welcome to the forum!

                    TSfan14,

I just added detailed information about the sprocket mod I was telling you about.

That is definatly on my winter project list, thaks for the update. I'm not quite ready to put the bike away just yet. 35 degrees this morning but clear skies so I had to ride to work. when the snow comes I will put that sprocket on. I know what they mean about looking for that extra gear. I'm on the interstate highways alot.
