Just moved from a Honda Goldwing GL1800. Prior to that I was on a 2006 Yamaha Roadstar. New ride is a 99 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad. Thus far I'm loving the bike, although it's idling quite a bit too high with lots of popping / backfire on deceleration. The bike came with a Kuryakyn Hypercharger as well as a set of Vance and Hines pipes. I suspect the PO didn't rejet/calibrate the carbeurators to handle in the increase in air / exhaust flow.

I haven't messed with adjusting and syncing carbs since my old Yamaha XS750 Special. are there any difficulties on this particular bike? (I ask because I had to bleed the clutch and discovered the joy of removing the left side cover for what should be have been a 10 minute job)

I'm also only getting close to 100 miles on a tank of gas, however when I fill it up it's only taking 2-3 gallons. Any suggestions?

Please let me know if I need to move a portion of this to a different forum

Anyway, here's a pic of Shadowfax as it stands now. Need to track down either an original windshield (po didn't have it) or invest in a bathing style fairing

    Thanks!

Welcome from NW Florida!! Sounds like you are on the right path with fuel issues.... my 05 Nomad got rougly 40 miles per gallon for reference..... might want to look underneath the seat (?) for a power commander.....???

It's a carbeurated model, so a power commander / tuner is out. I'm suspicious it just needs rejetted and sync'd. downside is that I live in a condo now, and pulling carbs in a parking lot is a PITA

Welcome! Great looking bike, once you get it fine tuned I think you will like it. The only two big downsides to the 99 models was a plastic oil gear (POG) and the cam chains eventually reach their limit of adjustment.
I am not that well versed with 1500s but here is a link to a site that will help you a bunch. http://www.vulcangadgets.com/
