Rolling Thunder Sun. May 30, 2010

Cass and I are thinking about pulling out from Carlisle around 8:30. We'll have more details after we talk to the PA rep Sat. We'll post what we find out Sat. night. The website is http://www.rollingthunder1.com/ for anyone interested in making a day of it in memorial for all who have served. Our goal is to make the Pentagon North Lot in time to make the ride to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Let us know..... email or call.

Hope you guys had a safe trip. One of these years we'd like to do this ride. People I have talked to said you should at least once.

We did not get in until late last night from West Virginia. Decided to stay home and plan for next year. Finally feels good to relax for a day.

Peace Kim.

Re: Rolling Thunder Sun. May 30, 2010

Local news is claiming 400,000 bikes this year. Don't know if this is over-optimistic or not. Last years claims were 200K bikes. A couple of years ago my son Drew and I rode down around the Pentagon in the morning to watch all the escorted rides coming into the Pentagon, about 110K bikes predicted and the later groups were staged out in the carpool lanes of I-395 because the Pentagon parking lots filled with the first 100K bikes.

Re: Rolling Thunder Sun. May 30, 2010

I was at the Rolling Thunder event in DC all weekend.
I did not ride in the parade because I wanted to see the Rolling Thunder events at the Lincoln Memorial that started at 1:30.
The motorcycle parade left the Pentagon parking lot at 12:00 noon.
I was watching the parade at the corner of Constitution Ave and 23rd Street and the first bike came by at 12:05. At 1:30 I went over to the Lincoln Memorial (only a short distance away) to watch RT events which ended about 3:00. At about 3:00 I looked over to the corner where I had been watching the parade and the last bike was going by the corner. I have no idea how many bikes went by that corner in three hours but it was certainly a lot.
I know there were many Rolling Thunder members that were not in the parade (any one could ride in the parade) because they were watching the parade and/or watching or participating in the events at the Lincoln Memorial.
The area around Constitution Ave and the side streets were a sea of bikes, mostly Harleys, some Honda Gold Wings and sport bikes, a couple of Vulcans (me and someone from NC) and a few Victorys.
Good weather and lots happening in DC.
Now that I have seen the RT events at the Lincoln Memorial, I may do the parade next year.

I got to see a Video of the Parade from a new friend all I can say is that is way to cool, and with a son in the service and relatives in Iraq thank god there are still people who care.
