  • Riding Two-Up

    As I occasionally ride two up with the Mrs or the daughter, I am always looking for new information to share with them about riding as a passenger. I have shared the info with them as well as with visiting friends.

    Here's a good link for some 2-up info:

    What do you do for your passengers??

    Re: Riding Two-Up

    The only 3 things a passenger needs to know: 1) sit down, 2) shut up, 3) Hold on...... LOL

    This just begs for comments;

    If you're dealing with a virgin, advise her ahead of time not to put her feet down at stops or grab your arms or shoulders while you're riding. Explain that when you corner she needs to relax and not lean against the turn, which is the usual impulse.

    Really good info Derry, thanks

              THIS was the only thing that the article in the original post was missing! I never, never, NEVER try to tell a virgin passenger to "stay with the bike in turns". Some have no idea what you are talking about, and others may be so fixated on it that they lose out on the enjoyment of the ride.

              Feet on pegs at all times and look over my shoulder in the direction of the turn are the two best instructions you can give, as far as what to do while moving, in my book!

                Re: Riding Two-Up

                I did it! I bought a bike! A Vulcan Nomad 1600 - 2008. 15 years ago, I road to ride a Goldwing 1100. I'm 15 years older now and a little scared, but I never forgot the feeling of the ride. So I taking the refresher motocycler safety course, getting a good helmet, gloves, insurance and going the mature safe things. Then, I will hit the back roads in the central valley of California. I'm a blues singer on the weekends and high tech HR recruiting consultant during the week. I want to hit the road! Any other new or experienced riders out there in Tracy, CA?

                        Re: Riding Two-Up

                        My buddies 18 yr old daughter wanted a ride, so I took her out one day. She grabbed my coat about rib level, and when we needed to turn right, she would physically twist my torso to the right. We went about 2 miles, turned around (at which point she almost twisted me completely around) and went home. Next time, I need to go over the basics with her first.
