The Camelbak thing works great, used this many times before, and if you wants some electrolytes to go with it, camelback has a great new product called exlixer, comes in many flavors, and you can put it in your camelbak bladder without it gtting all stickey like other powders will do. if your sweating alot you need electrolytes, sweat is water, sodium and the later, need to replace them both

Thanks, freerider, for bumping this old thread. I probably would never have stumbled on the Camelbak-in-the-armor-pocket idea otherwise, and that's a hell of an idea!

Okay someone in-lighten a relative newbie. Given all the talk about the mid summer heat, why is the rally in mid July? Why not the 1st or 2nd week of June?

I have only been to one rally, Thunder in the Ozarks, last year. The rides and the people were absolutely the best. If you ever stopped mid day it was stupid hot, 95 deg and fairly high humidity.

Anything over 94deg and 60mph is blast furnace territory. David Aikens from the Texas chapter 1-25 asked me if they sponsored a rally would I participate. I told him not if it was in JULY!

Wisconsin in July, I am looking forward to it! Almost any where else, not so much.

Re: Hot Weather Riding Survival Tip

The point about alcohol consumption is an important one as it makes dehydration MORE likely.

Another point of clarification also needs to be made I think.
The part about covering up and the example of the nomads in the desert.
Those folks wear very LOOSE fitting WHITE clothes usually, to block the sun but still allow some air circulation.
You MUST have some air circulation to allow for some sweat evaporation. Evaporation even at 100 degrees provides some cooling.
What you can NOT do is put on unvented black leathers.....on any other unvented covering. Some seem to interpret that advice to mean "seal yourself up in a bag" and that is exactly the wrong thing to do.
