  • Hi everyone from Nebraska

Hi, found the site the other day and a lot of good info..

Been gone from riding while the kid grew up and now that the daughter is grown and moved thought it was time to start getting some of those toys back I gave up long a ago.

I bought a 97 classic 1500 d2 a couple of months ago and have been enjoying it.. it has a lot of aftermarket goodies and looks and been running real sweet for me. After almost 1k of miles I noticed (poor judgment on my part) there is no site glass to see if it has been using any oil.. is there anyway to check the oil level? I cannot find it, all Ii have to go on right now is the idiot light which I never trust those.. Is it possible to hook up a gauge?

All I have to go on for an oil change is a label that says 3.5 liters.

    Thanks for any help

Welcome, as for checking the oil look under the fill cap for a dipstick that would be the first place I would look.

            Thanks for the welcome..

After following the oil pan I finally found the oil sight .. it is well hidden and you need to be on you knees looking at an upright angle to see it.. behind the exhaust.. wow!

Keep an eye on that oil level, Kaw says not uncommon for our D-2s ro use as much as a quart ever 1000 miles. I bought my d-2 locked up previous owner never checked the oil. I did a top end rebuild,.got 300 miles on it and locked to oil pump from pieces of the oil piston, you may want to look into pulling the second oil drain/screen next oil change. Also depending on tne miles you may want tonsee if you still have the pog (plastic oil gear) from the factory . If you have any questions let us know, I currently have my cases split waiting on my oil pump. And for sure google "gadgits fix it page" so much info on there from maint, (like tricks for checking the sight glass) to mods from guys that have been there done that! And welcome! Lol
