  • Help With Slow Starter Crank ?

    Just Got a 2008 VULCAN 2000 CLASSIC LT !!

Looking forward to riding the heck out of it this spring!
I will prob have many questions this winter wile I fix her up!

    Like this one ! LOL

And when I bought it the battery was weak and barley turned over.
However did start and was able to go for a test ride.

Been working on the bike .. and charged the battery to full ..
Its looks to be an OLD battery .. But took a charge.
But still the starter turns over really slow ?
I mean the Starter Cranks / Turns Over Very Slow ...
Way slower then my VTX 1800

I guess I was wondering if this is Kinda Normal ? For this bike ?
It DOES HAVE A HUGE ENGINE! LOL

Or if I got a bad starter > Or Maybe Bad Connections to the starter ?

HI, and this will get more hits if you post in the 2000 file on the main web page.. [just so you know ] Yes they roll over a bit slow and if it starts ok then you are good but I would look for a new battery with more amps. [rolls over faster] Both of my V2,s start by the 3/4 roll over if not there is some thing wrong ? [forgot to hit the kill switch one time -- ddddoooooo !] I had an 06 / have an 08. and I put 70K on the 06 with very few problems. and ask away with question / what works / how do you ? lots of help here.

If you believe the battery is old just replace it and it's one less thing to worry about on a bike that didn't come with a history provided. Clean the cable and ground connections too. Dying batteries can cause all sorts of odd behavior. If you're going to be doing some fixing pick up a shop manual.

Classic symptoms of a worn out battery.
It TAKES a charge but won't give it up.

Have the battery load tested. I bet it fails.
If it really looks old, you probably should figure on a new one anyway.
Charge the new one before use.

Yea .. I went and got a new battery today ..

But it still works the same .. Slow Crank Speed
          However Still Starts Very Quickly

I looked into the decompression solenoid Problem.
However Can not get the darn cover off ! Because of the Pipes ;(
The pipes are covering the " Bottom Bolt " there is no way to get it out
          without taking the pipes off

Thank you everyone for the feed back!

I missed that little fact in your first post.

            Then maybe there isn't a problem ?

But my opinion doesn't count for much on this subject as there has been trouble with the decomp valves; only owners of that or similar models can give you good guidance I think.

if it starts well.. the old saying of "if it's not broke, do not fix it !" very few have ever had that problem. you could try to here if the valve shifts. use some thing like a screw driver and hold it ageist the cover and see if you can hear a "clunk" when you hit the start button, if so it is moving. or can you shoot a vid with sound and post it so we can tell you if it is normal. but I think you are fine.
