  • another newbie!

well I haven't been a newbie for many years! LOL!

Been on other kawi forums, but never found my way to this one before. Hanging out in the GTA of Toronto, Ontario Canada.....any other Cnd's aboard here?

been riding my 06 Vulcan classic since I got it new. Love the bike, but finding that 800 riders are starting to disappear.... Seems everyone is upgrading to the 900. Have to admit for riding 2 up, it is a hell of a machine, but for running around by myself. I luv my 800!!

Have a bunch of "add on's" to my bike. but the bike it's self is stock. No mods to it mechanically.

have to sit down one day, and write up all the additions LOL!

Well that's it for me I guess. Howdy V' riders!

Welcome aboard Kawi-girl, enjoy the forum. A friend of min in Wisconsin also goes by Kaw Girl, traded in her old style Voyager for the 900C.

The 800 is a great machine for one up, and many still ride long distances that way, all in what you want. The 900 is larger, and the fuel injection is nice, but never tell that to your 800, might make it mad.

I'm working on trying to figure out how to change the oil in her. Spent today surfing and trying to figure it all out. Drain from the screen? the plug? Where all the bolts are...sheezzz...complex! can ya point me to any threads about this? I suck at searching forums for this stuff

Welcome to the forum. I get up to Mississauga a few times a year for work. I'm sure one of the 800 owners will jump in soon about the oil change.

Welcome, nothing like an 800 for fun nimble and comfort although I did ride dh's last week, finally figured I'd better get use to it while mine is in the shop getting her valves adjusted.

                      Re: another newbie!

Hey Kawi-Girl. Welcome to the forum.

Unless you plan on doing a lot of 2-up riding, don't feel like you need to upgrade from an 800. I just went to a Triumph open house with my Dad yesterday and rode their big Bonneville. It's either 1600 or 1800cc... BORING. The 800cc Speedmaster was a blast though. I don't like Triumphs but, regardless of the make, the middleweights are more fun to ride IMO.

As for changing your oil, you'll find a hex nut under its belly directly beneath the motor.
(Warm it up briefly before you drain it). You also need an adjustable filter wrench to replace the oil filter located front lower center of the engine.

Before you try to take on changing the oil yourself, make sure that you can remove the oil fill plug first on the left side. Kawasaki made it unnecessarily hard to remove it unless you have their special tool. I ended up buying a chrome fill plug so it would be easier to get on and off.

Thanks guys, been enjoying myself so far!

Slicks: Some good points you've made on the oil change. Appreciated! Not planning to get rid of the 800 anytime soon! I've test ridden the Triumphs, like them, but they will never replace the Vulcan. Haven't found a bike yet that I would get rid of it for LOL!
