  • Hello from Quincy

I just picked up a used 1998 Vulcan 800 Classic VN800B-3 for a friend. I'm still in possession of the bike for another week or so. I guess I will be the local wrench for the bike as I have been asked to do a couple of adjustments.

I have done some searching and have the owners manual but cannot figure out how to get the windshield off. Is there just a couple of bolts that have to be removed or does the headlight have to be removed?

I ride a Suzuki Boulevard and the windshield has 4 bolts and slides right off.

    Re: Hello from Quincy

Firstly welcome! Sorry you ride a Suzuki , just kidding, but glad you are here. The 800's didn't have a windshield that I know of, so it is an aftermarket one. I had a 2003 800 and had a Memphis Shades windshield on it and if memory serves me to get the bracket off you needed to remove the headlight, but the windshield itself did not require the headlight off. You should just be able to remove the bolts holding it to the bracket and remove it. Bear with me though it was about 8 years ago that I put it on and I never took it off the whole time I had the bike.

I am sure someone else will have a better answer for you soon though!

Thank you everyone. As soon as the rain stops I'll take a look to see if the windshield has a name on it somewhere.

Well it turns out it is a genuine Kawasaki windshield that was available as an option on the 800 and 1500.

Got it off today. There are 3 bolts on each side to remove the glass. Removed the brackets, stripped, and repainted them.
