        Kentucky.

        Un-fuking-believable.

Some day someone is going to have to explain exactly what CRVR 1-22 is getting out of being associated with the VRA.

Nobody has ever come up to visit us, there has never been a rally within 1000 miles of us and absolutely nobody gives a shit.

You know an email was sent out asking for both East & West rally proposals, it was posted in the NEC group when proposals were being sought, and we did not get any from the west which is fine, it's a lot of work hosting a rally and not many chapters are up to it, and hosting one remotely like in 2024 when Northern Indiana basically trucked everything out to South Dakota was an even bigger challenge. I was not sure what to expect as far as attendance in South Dakota but there were quite a number of people who made the trip that was 1300 or more miles away.

The only issue with 1-22 is the unfortunate fact it is a very isolated chapter in comparison to other chapters.

If I may put my 2 cents in, the rally for 2025 was announced here on the forum under the main topic Rides and Rallies under a tab called National Rally 2025. It was also posted on Facebook. I'm sorry you missed the announcement but you or someone in your chapter should have saw it if they were on the forum or Facebook.

Those are almost always retired blokes, or people who can otherwise take 2 weeks to make the trip. Those of us with jobs and families... cant. That's why only a couple people do it every year.

But while we're on the subject. I've made trips to Phoenix to visit them (pre changeover to the new regime), San Diego for the rally a couple years back, Red Bluff to visit on my way to San Diego.

There is not one ONE person in the entire VRA who can say the same about CRVR. Not one.

So forgive me if I politely don't give a shit that some retired guy made the trip.

Well going forward maybe we should set a parameter that if you volunteer to host a rally it can be me anywhere as long as it’s within 150 miles of Portland.

Oh and no not everyone who made the trip to South Dakota that traveled over a 1000 miles took two weeks and was retired, nor was I when I traveled 1500 miles to Arizona or over 1000 to Colorado.

OK, well I have volunteered to assist Nor Cal, Columbia River and Seattle chapters in hosting a rally. Never had any takers. I know those areas, I know the VRA-USA folks would go there too, they have said that to me. When they came to Colorado, there were stoked. Randy has put up my Drifter pics in the Cascades a few times. If you build it, they will come. I am working on getting to Kentucky myself since I screwed the pooch on 2024.

Good ole VRA. Always failing to see the point in every situation.

I mean, for all the bullshit I keep hearing about being willing to ride up here, NOBODY has done it. EVER. I've personally made multiple trips down south thru hail in April, and was prepared to make another one this year until I learned it was in fuking Kentucky.

Tell me. If you were part of a group who not only never made any effort to visit your club, but had actively denied the one attempt you made to host a rally that would be central to everyone, gave fukall about your chapter and had blamed you at every turn for all this..

...how would you feel about putting in another proposal to host a rally?

I am retired so time to travel is of no consequence. I think a lot of the membership made it out to South Dakota because it is really a bucket list of sights and rides in the area. The last Rally I attended (not VRA) was last summer in Maine. It was our international Rally and I rode 470 miles in one shot, with lots of breaks. The Kentucky VRA Rally is a 740 mile ride for me, so 2 days. With the cost of prices skyrocketing for a decent hotel and it being in July -hot-hot-hot- I will be waiting to see if anything closer happens in the future. Plus you have to look at where the majority of Chapters are located, and if there were multiple Rally proposals how they were selected. Unfortunately you are located over 1,000 miles from any of the nearest Chapters. For me close to 3,000 miles so not a ride I would do.

Thanks you for confirming what I've been saying. At least somebody is being honest. And I completely agree. It's a long haul. I did 2400 miles for the San Diego rally. In April. Through the hail in the Siskiyous.

There's a lot of talk about 'If you hosted, we would come', but it's just that. A bunch of talk. I have made FAR more of an effort to visit other chapters than everybody in the entire VRA has made to visit ours, COMBINED.

So I ask the question again. What is CRVR getting out of being in the VRA? We put a lot into it. Spreading the word, buying merch, wearing the patch and giving visibility, even attending a couple rallies. But what is VRA doing for us?

Good question. The pat answer would be you get out of it what you put into it. The VRA is a Riding Club brand specific to the Vulcan models. Motorcycle Clubs are generally a group of riders brought together over a common interest. Vet clubs, LEMC, religious clubs and so on. Because of this there is more often than not a tighter bond. Case in point, my MC hosted our International Rally in Maine with attendees from 11 Countries. Now back to the VRA. If you look at it as a whole we often forget we are an International Association with over 30 Chapters located world wide. Many of them host a National Rally but of course very few of them come close to the size of the United States making travel less of a consideration. We are also unique in the fact that we have Local Chapters (about 30?) whereas in other places there is either a National Chapter or Regional Chapters. It seems each Local Chapter has their own facebook page, which is fine. But then we go to the VRA USA Chapter webpage, the only event listed is the National Rally, so anybody visiting that page might think that is all we do. I hate to compare the other group I ride with to the VRA because we are set up regionally but our regional webpage has an events section where individual Chapters can post a benefit ride they are participating in, a Chapter event i.e. the Chilly Chili run this month, etc. There also seems to be a lack of promotion, often relying on Local Chapters to boost the numbers. With over 7,600 members on the FB page you think we would be huge. But I’m sure many of them don’t own a Vulcan, do not even own a motorcycle or may no longer be on FB. I made a suggestion to our NCM President to pass on to the NEC about making us look more active and progressive. In the meantime keep buying the VRA merch.
